Rebecca Rusch cemented her status as one of the world's premier women of adventure racing by her 4th place finish in 1999's Eco-Challenge. Since then, she has turned in top ten finishes in the 2000 Eco-Challenge and Raid Gauloises.
Rebecca is an internationally ranked outrigger canoe paddler and is a member of the U.S. Women's Whitewater Rafting Team, which placed second in the World Championships in February 2000. She is also an accomplished rock climber and has completed a number of first-female wall ascents in Utah and California. Rebecca is a full time adventure racer and climbing/ adventure/racing guide.
Rebecca has now been using SealSkinz for 3 years. Last year, in the jungles of Borneo, Rebecca found a new reason to love her SealSkinz Waterblocker socks, "The Borneo Eco-Challenge put SealSkinz to the test...After wandering through the jungles of Borneo and being wet and muddy for days, I expected my feet to be trashed. The SealSkinz I was wearing kept out the leeches, bacteria and bat guano and left my feet healthy."
Originally from Chicago, Rebecca moved out west 10 years ago after being bitten by the climbing bug. Her background in high school and college was cross-country running, but her focus since 1991 has been rock climbing, adventure racing, whitewater rafting and outrigger canoe paddling.
When asked why she competes in adventure races, Rebecca replies: "I love the sheer absurdity of it. You ask your mind and body to do the impossible, but somehow it becomes possible. I love the crucial mental aspect of the race, the amazing terrain we cover, the close bond formed with teammates, and the confidence I gain each time. I am always amazed by the way my eyes are opened to myself, my team, the country in which we travel, and the sheer power of the human spirit."
Rebecca is thrilled to have partnered with SealSkinz Waterproof Socks and Gloves. "Once I get out in a race, there are so many things on my mind and all of my teammates are depending on me. I can't risk painful foot injuries. With SealSkinz, I know I'll reach the finish line with perfectly healthy feet."
Rebecca currently lives out of the Bronco she rebuilt and holds a P.O. Box and storage unit in Truckee, CA.
